💧 SWAT Water Bottle Drive | January 19–23 💧

Our SWAT Team (Students Working As a Team) is hosting a Water Bottle Drive to help support fellow students!

We are collecting new or gently used water bottles to provide for students who may need one or who forget theirs during the school day. This is a great way for students to work together, show kindness, and make a positive impact in our school community.

Let’s fill the shelves and show what it means to be Students Working As a Team! Thank you for helping SWAT make a difference—one water bottle at a time! 💙💦

David Barton Elementary’s Second Annual Walk-A-Thon

We are excited to announce David Barton Elementary’s Second Annual Walk-A-Thon, taking place January 26–30, 2026! During this fun-filled event, all students will participate during their PE activity time while promoting physical activity and healthy habits.

This year’s theme, “Pirates on the Move!”, encourages our students to stay active, engaged, and moving. Funds raised will support new playground equipment and enhance the PE program at DBE. Our school-wide fundraising goal is $5,000, and 100% of all pledges will directly benefit DBE. With approximately 300 students, if each student raises just $25, we could raise an incredible $7,500 for our school!

Walk-A-Thon packets will be sent home with students on January 16. Thank you for your continued support in helping our students stay active while investing in our school community!

Big Smiles Dentistry will be at David Barton Elementary

Big Smiles Dentistry will be at David Barton Elementary on March 19, 20, and 23.

If your student is not able to see a dentist every six months as recommended, Big Smiles offers on-site dental care at school. Services include a dental exam, cleaning, X-rays (if needed), fluoride treatment, and sealants.

If this is something you would like for your child, please complete the permission form that will be sent home with your student.

Completed forms must be returned by February 27.

Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) Information

While our district still plans to use traditional snow days, we have also been approved to use Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) on days when school must close unexpectedly due to inclement weather, utility outages, or a contagious disease outbreak. We want families to be prepared should an AMI day be needed.

How AMI Works
Announcements about weather-related school closures will be shared via Parent Square, Facebook, and on local news stations. Closure announcements will clearly indicate whether the day is an AMI day or a traditional snow day.

On AMI days, students will continue learning by completing AMI Choice Boards which your student should have brought home.

Each AMI packet includes:
  • A grade-level Choice Board
  • An Activity Bingo Board
  • Notebook paper to complete work

Families are asked to keep these Choice Boards in a safe place at home in case an AMI day is needed. These Choice Boards are being sent home for preparation only and should not be completed unless an AMI day is announced.

All choice board work is due on the next in-session day immediately following the AMI learning day. Completing an activity in each column of the grade level Choice Board is required for full attendance on the AMI day.

Thank you for partnering with us to help ensure learning continues, even when unexpected closures occur.

Buddy Packs

As we begin the second semester of the school year, we are excited to offer our families another opportunity to participate in the Buddy Pack Program. Our school understands the importance of children having access to enough healthy food to help them learn and grow. That’s why we proudly partner with The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri to provide Buddy Packs to our students. Through this program, a pre-packaged bag of easily prepared, child-friendly food is sent home with participating children every Friday. These Buddy Packs contain non-perishable entrees, fruits, vegetables, snacks, and milk, all packed in recyclable plastic bags. Due to a decrease in funding, families with multiple children may receive only one or two packages. If you believe your family would benefit from the Buddy Pack Program and will use the food each week, please contact us at db@bpsk12.net or by phone at 660-882-6527.
