School Board Election

APRIL 2024 BOARD OF EDUCATION CANDIDATE FILING INFORMATION & TIMELINE

The Boonville R-I District will accept declarations of candidacy from any person interested in running for a position on the School Board in the April 2, 2024, election.  Persons interested can file at the district administration office located at 736 Main Street, Boonville, Missouri 65233.

There are (2) positions available with three-year terms (April 2024 – April 2027) and (1) position available with a two-year term (April 2024 - April 2026). 

To be eligible for the Boonville R-I School District Board of Education candidates must be:

  • a U.S. citizen;
  • at least twenty-four years old;
  • a resident taxpayer of the District;
  • have (or will have) resided in Missouri and of the District for at least one year immediately preceding the election;
  • not delinquent in the payment of any state income taxes, personal property taxes, municipal taxes, or real estate property taxes on place of residence;
  • never pled guilty or nolo contendere nor been convicted of a felony;
  • is not registered or required to be registered as a sex offender;
  • has filed all required campaign disclosure reports for any previous elections.

WHEN TO FILE:

Filings will begin on Tuesday, December 5th, 2023, at 8:00 a.m. and will continue during the following dates/times:

  • December 6-8, 11-12, 2023—Filings accepted between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
  • December 13, 2023—Filings accepted between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
  • December 14-15, 18-19, 2023—Filings accepted between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
  • December 20, 2023—Filings accepted between 7:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.
  • Filing will end on December 26th, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. and the district administration office will be open from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on this date.

Please note that filings will not be accepted from 12:00 p.m. – 12:30 p.m. each day. Filers must arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the ending filing time to ensure all documents are completed by the deadline. Filing will not occur on days that the school district’s offices are closed due to inclement weather, emergency closings or holiday vacations, except for the first and last day of filing during designated filing times unless severe inclement weather causes unsafe travel conditions.

 
  • What other information should I consider?
    Serving on the school board can be a valuable and satisfying way to make a significant contribution to the community. The Board, staff, parent, and student community enjoy a professional, collaborative relationship.
     
    As public officials, Board members do have to comply with certain restrictions not encountered in their private lives. Board members must refrain from Board activities which constitute a conflict of interest or which are incompatible with their role as Board member.  
     
    Election campaigns are separate from district activities and the candidate must fund their campaign with private contributions in accordance with the rules of the Fair Political Practices commission.
