Superintendent Dr. Sarah Marriott Plans Move to Liberty Schools
Posted on 01/25/2023

After eight years in the Boonville School District and five years as Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Sarah Marriott informed the Boonville Board of Education that she will depart as superintendent at the end of the school year to transition to a new role as Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources in the Liberty School District in Liberty, Missouri.

Boonville Schools have seen remarkable progress in vision during Dr. Marriott’s tenure. Four years ago, Dr. Marriott collaborated with the strategic planning committee to create a comprehensive vision for Boonville schools. The board adopted the strategic plan for 2021-2026 with a primary focus on student well-being and success, facility improvement, community engagement, and teacher recruitment and retention. During Dr. Marriott’s tenure, the district has made dramatic improvements in improving and repairing all district facilities, especially building safety.

Fiscal management has also been a key highlight of Dr. Marriott’s work. Dr. Marriott assisted in securing over $5 million in grant funds for the district. The district now has increased capital projects fund balance to ensure adequate funds available for facility emergencies and immediate needs. All of these goals were accomplished while there was an additional focus on balancing and implementing salary increases for all staff.

The Boonville Board of Education will follow a strategic process for a new superintendent search and hiring process, using the expertise and guidance of the Missouri School Board Association (MSBA.)  A Search and Hiring committee work will include feedback from school staff and community members. Board of Education President Sam Giroux said, “The Board plans to immediately begin work on a nationwide search for a new superintendent.  Our goal is to bring in a well-qualified, best-in-class superintendent to begin the 23-24 academic year.”

Dr. Marriott will lead Boonville Schools through June 30, 2023. Mr. Giroux said, “The Boonville R-1 Board of Education wishes Dr. Marriott success in her next challenge.  We have been blessed to have her as part of our district these past eight years.  During this time, as the first female superintendent in school history, she has led us through two major building improvement initiatives, the creation of a results-focused strategic plan, transitioning us to a data-driven decision model, and beginning an expansion of student-first services.  Dr. Marriott’s departure will leave a big hole for her successor to fill, but she has left us in great shape for our next leader to thrive.”
